Miley Cyrus Concert Banned in Dominican Republic Over Morality Concerns
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — The Dominican Republic government commission responsible for overseeing public performances has banned Miley Cyrus’ September 13 concert on morality grounds. The commission announced Thursday that the decision was made due to Cyrus’ frequent “acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law.”
Tickets for the concert in the capital, priced between $27 and $370, have been on sale since July.
Critics have labeled Cyrus’ onstage behavior, including twerking and crotch-grabbing, as vulgar.
A representative for Cyrus did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Concert organizers in the Dominican Republic have also refrained from commenting on the ban. The commission has previously banned songs it considers vulgar from the airwaves, including tracks by Puerto Rican group Calle 13.
