Rick Harrison, star of “Pawn Stars,” is grieving the unexpected loss of his second son, Adam Harrison. Tributes are pouring in for the Harrison family during this difficult time.
Adam Harrison, 39, passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Friday, January 19. Family spokesperson Laura Herlovich has requested privacy for the family to grieve. Herlovich disclosed to the Associated Press that an overdose of fentanyl is suspected to be the cause of Adam’s death.
Rick Harrison emphasized the seriousness of the fentanyl crisis in a statement to TMZ, urging for increased awareness and action. USA TODAY has contacted the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for an official report.
Both Rick Harrison and his son, Corey Harrison, shared heartfelt tributes to Adam on Instagram, expressing their deep sorrow and fond memories.
The Harrison family and their renowned business, featured in the hit television program “Pawn Stars,” are in the thoughts of many as they navigate this tragedy. “Pawn Stars” debuted in 2009, showcasing Rick Harrison, his family, and the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop.
Founded in 1980 by Rick Harrison’s father, Richard Harrison, the shop was transformed under Rick’s leadership in 1988. It has since become a major tourist attraction in Las Vegas, drawing up to 3,000 visitors daily.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Rick Harrison is the father of six children: three daughters, Sarina, Ciana, and Marissa, and three sons, Corey, Adam, and Jake. Adam, affectionately known as “Wax,” occasionally worked at the store but never appeared on the show. Rick’s youngest son, Jake, and his oldest son, Corey, have been frequent participants on the show. Rick’s father, Richard Harrison, known as “The Old Man,” was a central figure until his passing in 2018 at the age of 77. Corey’s childhood friend, Austin “Chumlee” Russell, is another well-known character, having been a beloved part of the shop since he was young.
“Pawn Stars” has aired 21 seasons over 15 years, with the latest season concluding on June 28, 2023. A spin-off series, “Pawn Stars Do America,” premiered in 2022, following Rick, Corey, and Chumlee as they traveled the country in search of unique items. The second season of this spin-off ended on December 20, 2023.
The New York Post reports that Adam’s passing will not affect the show’s production schedule. According to statements by Laura Herlovich and a History Channel representative, “Pawn Stars” will resume filming in February.
