Born on April 26, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, Burnett was raised by her grandmother due to her parents’ struggles with alcoholism. In the 1940s, they moved to Hollywood, where Burnett pursued theater at the University of Southern California. Her big break came in 1957 on The Ed Sullivan Show with a comedic song that playfully spoofed young women’s adoration of Elvis Presley, catapulting her to stardom.
