In a bold stand for faith and fairness, a Vermont Christian school recently made headlines by choosing to forfeit a playoff basketball game. The reason? The girls’ basketball team was set to compete against a team that had a biological male player on its roster.
Mid Vermont Christian School, known for upholding its Christian values, found itself in the spotlight after deciding not to play against the Long Trail Mountain Lions, a team that included a male student-athlete. Although Vermont state regulations allow biological males to participate in girls’ sports, the school stood firm in its belief that this compromised both the integrity of the game and the safety of its players.
The 12th-seeded Eagles from Mid Vermont Christian School were scheduled to face the 5th-seeded Long Trail Mountain Lions in the playoff match. By forfeiting, the Mountain Lions advanced uncontested to the next round.
