Tragic news has struck the America’s Got Talent community as 17-year-old cheerleader Emily Gold has died by suicide. Us Weekly has confirmed the heartbreaking news.
The Los Osos High School Varsity Dance Team, where Gold served as Senior and Varsity Dance Captain, shared the devastating news through an Instagram post on Monday, September 16: “It is with such a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beautiful, kind, and loving Emily Gold. She embodied every aspect of our core team values through her strength, commitment, kindness, compassion, and her most humble heart.”
The Southern California high school team added that Gold will be remembered as “a leader, role model, friend, and sister to her teammates.” Gold had recently been named one of three captains for the upcoming school year.
“Our sweet sweet Emily — we love you endlessly and miss you more than words can ever express. Everything we do is for you, our beautiful angel 🤍,” the heartfelt message concluded.
In support of her family, a GoFundMe page has been created, raising $25,000 so far. Friends, family, and teammates have been paying tribute to the late dancer on social media.
“We are sending tons of love, thoughts, and prayers to your family. We remember all those long gymnastics days spent together, those Vegas trips,” one person wrote on the fundraising page. “She will be missed dearly. May she rest in peace, and may you all find comfort in each other’s arms. We love you and are here for you. ❤️”
The San Bernardino Coroner’s Office confirmed on Monday that Emily Gold’s death was by suicide.
This tragic news comes just a month after Gold and her dance team made an appearance on America’s Got Talent, where they earned a spot in the quarterfinals but were eliminated in August. Following their emotional exit, judge Simon Cowell gave the team a standing ovation.
“It was absolutely brilliant,” Cowell, 64, said to the performers. “The energy, the talent, the friendship—everything a great school should be fostering.”
Cowell compared their performance to High School Musical and remarked, “Every kid should go to a school like that.”
In May, Emily had shared her excitement over the America’s Got Talent audition process on Instagram, writing, “WE AUDITIONED!!!!! This has been the most incredible experience, and we couldn’t have done it without @rachelmuego and @kylee.kam. Thank you both for creating and guiding the most beautiful family🤍.”
Emily’s passing has left her community devastated, and she will be remembered for her talent, leadership, and kind spirit.
