Michael “Prince” Jackson Jr. honored the 15th anniversary of his father’s passing by memorializing the late King of Pop. Prince, who was 12 when Michael Jackson died in 2009 from acute propofol intoxication, took to Instagram to pay tribute. On Tuesday, the 27-year-old shared an Instagram Story featuring a photo of Michael Jackson during his iconic halftime show performance at Super Bowl XXVII in 1993. “Miss you pops,” Prince wrote. “The world felt better with you in it.” Michael Jackson, a 13-time Grammy-winner, passed away at the age of 50 due to cardiac arrest caused by acute propofol intoxication. At the time, Prince was just 12 years old. This heartfelt post comes shortly after news that Prince, along with his siblings Paris, 25, and Bigi, 22, and their grandmother Katherine Jackson, are currently unable to receive funds from Michael Jackson’s estate due to an ongoing dispute with the IRS. The siblings are beneficiaries of the late singer’s trust, while Katherine, 94, is a beneficiary of a sub-trust. Following a tax audit, it was revealed that the estate had “undervalued its assets” and owed “$700 million in taxes and penalties.” In light of Sony’s $600 million purchase of a portion of Jackson’s Mijac catalog in February, the estate has filed a motion for reconsideration of the artist’s estate value. Prince was not the only family member to remember Michael Jackson on this somber anniversary. Michael’s older brothers, Jackie and Tito, as well as Tito’s son TJ, also shared Instagram posts dedicated to the legendary singer. Looking ahead, Jackson’s legacy continues with the upcoming theatrical biopic, “Michael,” set to release on April 18, 2025. The film stars his nephew Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine.
