Emergency services confirmed the singer’s death, with photos circulating that show Payne’s body on a wooden deck outside the hotel. Distinct tattoos, including a scorpion on his waist and a clock on his forearm, helped identify the star.
Earlier that day, Payne had posted a lighthearted Snapchat message, describing it as a “lovely day” in Argentina, sharing his plans of enjoying a late breakfast.
Liam Payne, who rose to global fame as a member of One Direction after their formation on The X Factor in 2010, had pursued a solo career following the band’s hiatus in 2015. He leaves behind his son, Bear, from his relationship with singer Cheryl, a former X Factor judge.
