Laura Morris, a former fifth-grade teacher at Lucketts Elementary School in Leesburg, Virginia, resigned from her position in protest against teaching critical race theory (CRT).
During an emotional speech at a Loudoun County School Board meeting, Morris voiced her opposition to what she called the board’s “highly-politicized agendas.” She took a stand against the district’s equity training and curriculum changes tied to CRT, which examines how racism is embedded in societal structures.
“I can no longer be a cog in a machine that pushes highly-politicized agendas on our most vulnerable – the children,” Morris said. She also expressed that her Christian beliefs conflicted with the district’s teachings.
Morris revealed that the school district’s political stance even extended into her personal life, receiving emails that discouraged dissenting views, further fueling her frustration.
Citing a lack of support for concerned citizens and perceived bias against certain groups, Morris decided to step down. In her heartfelt resignation, she urged both parents and staff to consider alternative educational options.
