Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama (born January 17, 1964) is an American attorney and author who served as the First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Raised on the South Side of Chicago, Michelle is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. Early in her legal career, she worked at the law firm Sidley Austin, where she met her future husband, Barack Obama. She later worked in nonprofits and served as the associate dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago. Eventually, she became the vice president for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Michelle married Barack Obama in 1992, and they have two daughters.

She is the wife of President Donald Trump. Melania grew up in Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia) and pursued a career in fashion modeling in Milan and Paris before moving to New York City in 1996. She continued her modeling career in the U.S. and married Donald Trump in 2005. They have a son, Barron, born in 2006, the same year she became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Melania is the second naturalized woman and the first non-native English speaker to become First Lady of the United States.

She previously served as the Second Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017, when her husband was vice president. Since 2009, Jill has been a professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College, making her the first wife of a vice president or president to hold a salaried position during the majority of her husband’s tenure.
