A tragic accident has left a married couple from Texas in distress while vacationing in Mexico. Jorge Guillen, 43, and Lizette Zambrano, 35, were electrocuted in a hot tub at the Sonoran Sea Resort on Tuesday, June 11.
The incident claimed Jorge’s life, while Lizette is in critical condition after being rushed to a U.S. hospital near the border. Concerned hotel guests noticed the couple motionless in the hot tub, prompting immediate action. CCTV footage revealed a fellow vacationer attempting CPR before emergency services arrived.
The Sonora attorney general’s office is investigating the cause of the apparent electric shock. In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Jorge and Lizette’s family, covering the costs of bringing Jorge’s body home and Lizette’s medical expenses.
The fundraiser description reads, “Our best friends have experienced a horrible accident. Jorge had a heart of gold and was always there for family and friends. The love they shared was one for the ages. We are asking for your help to bring him home & help with medical expenses for her.”
Tributes have poured in, with Lizette’s best friend sharing the heartbreaking news on Facebook: “As I woke up this morning, we received a message from our best friend’s mom. A message you don’t want to wake up to. As many of you have seen on social media and the news, a tragic event happened. I will not go into detail here. It would be greatly appreciated if you all could donate to help get Jorge home and help with medical expenses. Lizette has a ways to go in recovery, and we are all here to help her through.”
Disturbing video footage of the incident shows a body submerged in the hot tub while horrified guests look on. Reports indicate that someone who attempted to assist the couple also received an electric shock. It is unclear if anyone else was injured.
